History, no matter how you look at it.

Obama’s speech last night was historic. Whether the speech was full of empty rhetoric and promise without substance or full of promise and hope for the future is immaterial. Regardless of what you think of the man, his prospects for victory or his readiness for the office, the fact that he won his party’s nomination and is now in a fight for the presidency is historic. One can almost believe that we, as a nation, are finally beginning to judge someone by the “content of their character.”

However, not to be outdone, John McCain has just selected Alaska Governor Sarah Palin to be his Vice President.

Now, it’s not unprecedented. Most can remember the ill-fated campaign of Geraldine Ferraro and Walter Mondale, so it’s not ground-breaking to pick a woman as VP. Nor is it ground breaking to pick a politically young governor for a VP. Spiro Agnew was only the Governor of Maryland for a few years before being tapped by Nixon to be his running mate. Previous to that he had no major level government (beyond county-level) experience. While it’s not ground breaking, the past does not bode well for Mrs. Palin’s future.

UPDATE: Then again, who WOULDN’T vote for a Governor that’s been on the cover of Vogue??

But to pick a woman who’s 44, the youngest Governor of Alaska ever, and……wait for it…. a life long member of the NRA is genius. And, no matter who wins, history will be made. Either a minority president, or a female Vice President.

Either way, it looks like the promise of America, and equality for all, is slowly coming to fruition. It’s going to be a tight race. One that comes down to the wire. In the end, I’ll be proud to tell my grandkids that I was there when it happened.

Just because you’re paranoid, doesn’t mean they aren’t out to get you.

Vladimir Putin czar Prime Minister of Russia, has accused the U.S. of encouraging Georgia to attack South Ossettia for the benefit of one of our Presidential Candidates.

In an exclusive interview with CNN’s Matthew Chance in the Black Sea city of Sochi Thursday, Putin said the U.S. had encouraged Georgia to attack the autonomous region of South Ossetia.

Putin told CNN his defense officials had told him it was done to benefit a presidential candidate — Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are competing to succeed George W. Bush — although he presented no evidence to back it up.

“U.S. citizens were indeed in the area in conflict,” Putin said. “They were acting in implementing those orders doing as they were ordered, and the only one who can give such orders is their leader.”

That just makes me laugh a little on the inside. Unlike many in the U.S., I certainly don’t blame Russia for the actions in Georgia. My personal thought is that the Georgian government made a strategic miscalculation and thought more Western states would come their aid if they caused a ruckus in South Ossettia.

What they failed to realize is that, in all reality, other than supporting the Democratic ideal, we really have nothing to gain by getting overly involved in Georgia. So, here’s a C-17 with some supplies, best of luck to you.

Was Russia a little heavy handed in their response. Maybe, but is anyone really surprised that Russian military doesn’t have a light touch?? I didn’t think so.

But to think this is an operation to improve a candidates chances of election? Now you’re just being silly.

If you do normal things, you get normal results. If you want to achieve special results, you must do special things.

The sign of things to come

I’d like to say I was surprised by this.  Unfortunately, I’ve been telling my friends since Obama first came on the scene that this was going to happen.

Should Obama get elected, many prayers for the Secret Service.  They’re certainly going to have their work ahead of them.

Denver’s CBS television affiliate reported that those arrested were connected to a potential attempt to kill Obama at Invesco Field, the open-air stadium where the nominee is to deliver his acceptance speech Thursday.

“It’s premature to say that it was a valid threat or that these folks have the ability to carry it out,” a U.S. government official familiar with the investigation told the Associated Press.

But Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin late Monday said he was concerned about the emerging developments.

”The security detail says it is serious,” Durbin said. ”There are firearms involved, and that’s all I know.”

Law enforcement sources in Chicago and suburban Denver confirmed that those arrested were being investigated for possible ties to a white supremacist organization.

While it is certainly a sad state of affairs that this is even a concern in this country in this day and age, it doesn’t make it any less true.

Or less deadly.

Is that the best you can do?

Seriously.

A girl works her butt off for decades.

Fights off the stress and demands of the moment.

Achieves her life’s dream and the world’s highest acclaim in her sport.

and HERE’S what CNN puts up on its webpage to tell her story.

Congrats to Nastia for winning what no one thought she could a year ago.

Boo to the media for not honoring her well.

I knew the American media was horrible as a general characteristic, but this is pathetic.
