Vladimir Putin czar Prime Minister of Russia, has accused the U.S. of encouraging Georgia to attack South Ossettia for the benefit of one of our Presidential Candidates.
In an exclusive interview with CNN’s Matthew Chance in the Black Sea city of Sochi Thursday, Putin said the U.S. had encouraged Georgia to attack the autonomous region of South Ossetia.
Putin told CNN his defense officials had told him it was done to benefit a presidential candidate — Republican John McCain and Democrat Barack Obama are competing to succeed George W. Bush — although he presented no evidence to back it up.
“U.S. citizens were indeed in the area in conflict,” Putin said. “They were acting in implementing those orders doing as they were ordered, and the only one who can give such orders is their leader.”
That just makes me laugh a little on the inside. Unlike many in the U.S., I certainly don’t blame Russia for the actions in Georgia. My personal thought is that the Georgian government made a strategic miscalculation and thought more Western states would come their aid if they caused a ruckus in South Ossettia.
What they failed to realize is that, in all reality, other than supporting the Democratic ideal, we really have nothing to gain by getting overly involved in Georgia. So, here’s a C-17 with some supplies, best of luck to you.
Was Russia a little heavy handed in their response. Maybe, but is anyone really surprised that Russian military doesn’t have a light touch?? I didn’t think so.
But to think this is an operation to improve a candidates chances of election? Now you’re just being silly.
