RDML Bruce Grooms is coming to D.C..
Rear Adm. (lower half) Bruce Grooms, who has been selected for promotion to rear admiral, will become vice director, Joint Staff. Grooms is commander, Submarine Group 2, Groton, Conn.
Part of you says, “And?? What’s the big deal?” I remind you that Admiral Grooms has been Group 2 for less then a year.
Add to that, he was still an O-6 and the Commandant at the Academy back in 2006. O-6 to O-8 in less then three years.
If that’s not hot running, I don’t know what is. And it couldn’t happen to a nicer guy. I had the pleasure of dealing with him on numerous occassions in Squadron Six, and he was a solid, personable, inspiring leader.
Good to see the right guys finish first. Gives you some faith in the system.

I grew up with Rear Adm. Bruce Grooms we were Co-MVP’s on our High School basketball team. I went to college and became a business man and he has taken the leadership skills he demonstrated on the court and in the class room to another level. He is a fair and humble leader of men and I am proud to still call him “My Friend” here 40 years latter!
