John Finn (l) and Frank Curry (r), two of the nation's oldest Medal of Honor recipients
John Finn, Frank Currey and Nick Oresko are members of an exclusive club that tends to shrink when the nation isn’t at war. And of the less than 100 living recipients of the Medal of Honor, Finn is the most exclusive of all, as he nears his 100th birthday.
Finn is the oldest living honoree, a Navy veteran awarded the medal for his actions during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor.
Had the honor of meeting the man a few months ago. Lovely family, lovelier man. Like most of the MOH winners I’ve met, very humble. Thankful for the recognition, but it was “just doing [their] job.”
Considering the times we’re in, the country could use a few more selfless heroes to hold up as shining examples.
Read his story here.

It’s a rare thing when I read something and have an immediate, visceral, and negative reaction to it. I didn’t even make it past the first sentence of the second paragraph before I knew this article was crap.
The Obama administration has no intention of pushing comprehensive immigration reform any time soon, but with his nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court, the president may have found a suitable consolation prize for the Hispanic community.
A prize is due. Hispanics gave 67 percent of their votes to President Obama, delivering key states like Colorado, Nevada and New Mexico to his electoral column, and sending him two new Democratic senators and three new House Democrats from those states alone.
No one is ever “due” anything in this life, much less preferential treatment from the government simply because you voted on a ballot written in Spanish.
The only thing any of us are entitled to is the right to try our best, unfettered by governmental interference either for or against us.
Period.

An Israeli submarine has rescued a swimmer off the coast of Haifa.
FIVE miles off the coast to be exact.
The Israeli navy said on Wednesday that one of its submarines had rescued the swimmer.
A military spokesman said that the submarine was engaged in a routine patrol off the Israeli port city of Haifa when crew members noticed the swimmer. The armed forces said that the man was “exhausted and weak”.
Reminds me of the glory days of World War II, when one of the important functions of US submarines (besides sinking everything they saw) was rescuing presidents pilots shot out of the sky.
BZ to the Israeli’s for kicking it old school!

LTjg George Bush once again proves there are more planes in the ocean than submarines in the sky

“But a Supreme Court nomination is not a lifetime achievement award, and should not be treated as an opportunity to practice affirmative action.”
– Ilya Shapiro
I think I’d argue that she hasn’t achieved enough in her life to deserve this award.
