Every time I think Submariners and coffee I can’t get that (True) story out of my mind–think I read it in Ed Beach’s compendium of WWII Submarine stories “Submarine.” –where for years an old Chief was famous for getting the Skipper his coffee hot from the galley and up to the Con w.o. spilling a drop no matter how rough the seas. Then one day a JO just happened to see him in action and the secret was out. Just before he started up the ladder to the Con he SWALLOWED the COFFEE!–held it in his mouth–then spit it out back into the cup once he’d navigated the climb.! LOL!! (Can’t remember which sub, tho.) A classic!
